Suicide Prevention Help was created, as a "Friendship Letter" for those who are despairing and contemplating suicide by Kenneth Hemmerick, a Montreal, Canada, interdisciplinary fine artist, because he was shocked to find Web sites that actually encouraged people to kill themselves.

Since 1998, he has answered thousands of letters from people who have visited his site, offering a few kind words and positive suicide prevention resources available online and offline.

In July, 2006, he began creating a Global Web Directory of suicide prevention resources. This blog offers news and updates relating to this directory.

Kenneth is a global core team member of Human Dignity and Humiliation Studies, anchored at Columbia University, and serves as Director of the group's Prevent Suicide by Extending Equal Dignity to All project.
